After many years (approximately 15) going to Basil’s Kitchen at the Bellevue Double Tree/Hilton on 112th, we decided to change the location of Mother’s Day Brunch to Salty’s on Alki Beach in West Seattle.  Greg made reservations almost a month ahead of time, and was offered a table at 8:15am or 4:00pm.

When we arrived at 8:00am, the restaurant was already bustling with many patrons and happy mothers and we were asked to limit our time to an hour and a half.

Gorgeous view of Seattle, we had an amazing booth for our family of 5.  Most of us went up for 3 or 4 rounds of food.  I started with an all-seafood breakfast, including clam chowder.  The boys went beef and the girls were veggie and fruit and a little in-between stuff.

The fresh made donuts were awesome!  And we walked out with a cute little tomato plant for Mother’s Day.   Took some waterfront pictures and then we saw several Canadian geese and their goslings.

We were on our way home from a perfect morning, and BAM!  A deer ran into my car.  I saw it crossing the 5-lane road at a rapid speed, slammed on my breaks and tried to swerve to avoid it, but it was too late.   I drove to the State Park driveway and pulled in.  The car smashed, the deer — well, fortunately for the deer a park ranger came to its rescue and put it out of its misery.    He dragged it to the edge of the road to get it out of the street.

Everyone was perfectly fine and okay.   All wearing our seatbelts and no one smashed inside the car.  The car had damage to the drivers door, driver’s panel, headlight, bumper and hood.  We called the police and they filed a report.   So, it was a memorable day.

We all went home and took naps, rested from the ordeal.  Then went to Sandy and Garrett’s house for an amazing dinner that Sandy cooked – lamb, an Osco bucco was simply amazing!  The wine, appetizers, grilled veggies and of course, a whole different menu for the kids (burgers and tater tots) was all so good!  It was a nice way to end the day with friends.  Sandy was celebrating her birthday, which made it extra special.

All in all, it really was a most memorable Mother’s Day!
