Last summer we followed the Oregon Shadow Theater from Sammamish to Woodinville to Bainbridge Island. We saw shadow puppet versions of Puss in Boots in the Bayou, Jack and the Dragon and Anisa the Spider. We were fortunate to see them at the our libraries for free (tickets usually go for eight to ten dollars).
Free tickets are handed out 1 hour before the performance. Check their schedule for this summer’s performances, or check your King County Library System. Stick around after the performance and the puppeteers will show you how the puppets and props were made and used in the show.
Perfect for young kids, but older kids will enjoy too. Performances are about 45 minutes long.
Puss in Boots in the Bayou
Puppeteers after the show, demonstrate how they use music and the art of shadow puppets to create the show. The kids get to see behind-the-scenes and ask questions.
The Oregon Shadow Theater will be in our area for 2011 (listed below). But check their website for a complete listing of Seattle, Portland and Idaho performances.
