Permanent Midnight

I watched this interesting movie on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) about Jerry Stahl, a Hollywood writer on series such as Alf, Thirtysomething, and Moonlighting.  (All three of my favorite 1980’s shows).    Later he wrote for CSI, and the screen play for Bad Boys II, and this autobiography Permanent Midnight that became this movie.

But what caught my eye was Ben Stiller, who played Jerry in the depressing 1998 movie of a writer who was making $5,000 a week on these shows and blowing it on his addiction to heroin.  The beautiful Elizabeth Hurley played his wife, in a very kind light, she seemed almost too good for him.

Owen Wilson had a part as well, as his drug addict friend.  How many movies have these two actors (Stiller & Wilson) been in together?

Pretty depressing movie; it was like watching a train wreck, I couldn’t turn away. Definitely worth watching; I may even pick up the book.

  1. Great article. I’ve enjoyed this contribution. Its nice to see every questions answered in a blog post like this. I will add this post on my blog and link to it. Thanks for a clear informative post, I’ve learned a lot. I hope to see videos though as I can be A.D.D and reading articles is not my favorite thing to do online. So what I do sometimes is just print the whole thing and read offline.
