June 18, 2014 – Holly was awarded the 75 miles medal for Running Club, and I was presented with the PTA Golden Acorn Award. I also presented the Outstanding Educator Award this day too!

It’s not too often I post about what I do, as a wife and mother of the Keyser Kids, but being recognized for what I have done was a true pleasure in June of 2014.

Written and presented by Nikki Balt, PTSA Board Member:

The Golden Acorn is a special award presented to a volunteer in recognition of dedication and service to children and youth within our PTSA, school and community.

Judith’s involvement at Blackwell, as well as in the community demonstrates her dedication to kids.  Her involvement at Blackwell includes leading many PTSA sponsored programs, co-chaired Reflections, volunteers her time for the Teacher/Staff Luncheons committee, helped take photos for yearbook at many of the events, has chaired BoxTops and Blackwell directory.  She is also a huge advocate of the chess program that was adopted by the PTSA in 2008 to be taught in conjunction with the 2nd and 3rd grade math curriculum.  Besides her participation and leadership in PTSA sponsors programs, she is an active volunteer in her child’s classroom.  Judith is truly dedicated to our school, and is proud to be part of the Blackwell community.

She is also active outside of school.  For 10 years, she has coached her children’s soccer teams.  She is involved with both the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.  This winter,  in addition to being Cookie Mom, she lead her daughter’s Girl Scout troop as they earned their Bronze Award through the coordination of feeding the Ten City community that was being housed at Mary Queen of Peace, as well as raising funds and materials for the Tent City residents to improve their housing.  Judith and her family actively support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, helping to raise money and awareness to the cause for their friends at Blackwell.

With this kind of dedication to the school and community, the Blackwell PTSA would like to honor Judith Keyser with the Golden Acorn Award.
