Staying at “The cottage” for a week
On August 12th, 2018 we dropped Harrison off at Boy Scout camp and later that night Heather, Holly and I took the red-eye to Boston. Judy was already there, and had toured some colleges with Harrison before he flew back to Seattle on his own. We love staying in “the cottage” and this trip was no different. Judy and Heather spent the better part of an entire day shopping for stuff to bring to Lehigh. I later joked with her that mid-day I received a fraud alert call from the credit card company…
Time to head south, Lehigh here we come
All packed up and ready to go, on Sunday the 20th we got up at the crack of dawn.
The car wasn’t really THAT full, and everyone was all smiles. Nana and Grandpa got up (as they always do) to send us off!
The drive down was just under 5 hours, and we didn’t really hit any traffic. We crossed the Tappen Zee Bridge, which I hadn’t been across in close to 30 years. They completely rebuilt it and just opened it about a year ago.
Bethlehem!
Just before noon, we arrived in town and we were all hungry. We wanted to go to the Goosey Gander for subs, but they were closed. So, I had to take them to good old Campus Pizza!
This picture was taken AFTER lunch, when we weren’t so hangry.
We then went to get Heather’s ID and room key, and headed up to M&M. She had applied to move in a day early (she was participating in the 3 day Outdoor Adventure program as part of preLUsion, which starts Monday) and as such there was basically nobody on campus.
Holly was in charge of taking pictures, and was a GREAT KID the entire day. Surprisingly, there were no tears shed by anyone, it was really just a great day. Later that night, we all went out to Mama Nina’s for a very good Italian dinner. Heather stayed that night in her dorm!
preLUsion and “good-bye until November”
Monday morning was move in day for most of the preLUsion participants. We met Heather for breakfast at Johnny’s Bagels, and that did NOT disappoint. While we were there, she got a call from someone inquiring why she hadn’t checked in to the registration desk for preLUsion yet. Yikes! In the process of moving in a day early, it was “lost” that Monday morning she had to register and pick up her t-shirt for preLUsion at the Iaccoca Center on Mountaintop Campus. So we jumped in the car and cruised up there. Met up with her roommate Noor, who was there to interview for a work study job. They followed us back to M&M so Noor could see the room (she wasn’t moving in until Thursday).
Parent info sessions
After we said goodbye to Heather at 11:30, we toured campus and had a series of informational sessions. Holly continued to be a real trooper and we had an amazing day.
